On cookery programs

You'd have thought, because I love cookbooks, I'd love cookery programmes. Alas, I just don't. I used to, somewhere I even have nigella bites on DVD, which replaced the VHS version I picked up cheap (you don't want to know what happened to the VHS version) but even my love for Princess Cupcake leaves me cold when I watched it.

I'm not 100% sure what it is, I really love food, and I love cooking, but I find watching people on tv cook so uninspiring. There's some chefs I'm sure are lovely, with cookbooks full of amazing recipes, that I won't go near too because  they've annoyed me so much on screen (my top 3 most hated tv chefs are as follows : 1) Bill Granger 2) Rachel Allen 3) Rick Stine - I was fine with rick until I saw a documentary that was so smug I though it was a parody until I realised it wasn't )

I'm sure it boils down to this, if i eat something out and about, I can try and work out how it's made, what's in it, how it's been cooked, if it's worth working out how to make it at home etc. If I read a recipe, or flick through a cookbook, I either have something to use up, something in mind, or i'm in the mood for pretty pictures and uncomplicated text, whatever it's spurring off ideas in my head.

But watching someone on television catch, cook, prepare and make something just leave me disappointed and reaching for a takeaway menu...

Good day at the office..

... Had the first of two weekend open days in Feb (there's a bunch of Wednesdays ones too) and it's deep in Interview season. Today consisted of 2 very bouncy talks on our awesome portfolio of awards, a big mac meal wolfed down in a couple of mins and between us we interviewed around 40 students (and some of them were very, very good - next years intake is looking awesome) Not much else, Pete has the Bear & Pheasant tonight so I'm going to put my feet up, watch The Clone Wars DVD that turned up and relax a bit. I'm currently full of chocolate, marshmallows and white citrus tea, having watched the last part of The Art of Russia - making me want to go back to Russia and wishing I'd have been a bit freeier too explore when I was there. One day I'll go back, take Pete, learn to tell the difference between sour cream and mayonnaise and stay away from the cabbage dumplings, especially for breakfast. But it's been a very busy week - got invited down to an awes...
